This year, Drumline will be traveling to Dayton, Ohio, to compete in the WGI Drumline World Championships.

Below is travel information and downloadable forms.

  • Paperwork – due Wednesday April 7th
  • I have attached the three forms that must be completed and returned to Janet by 9:00 am Wednesday April 7th.  Have your student bring them to practice and Janet will be there to collect them.  I already have some of them returned – thanks! The forms are 1) Los Al Field Trip - Dayton 2010 2) Medication Information Form - Dayton 2010 and 3) Code of Conduct - Dayton 2010.  Janet will hold all medications your student needs during our trip.  As these will need to go through airport security, please ensure the medications are all well marked and in the original prescription bottles.  Also, please be sure to let Janet know if your student has any dietary restrictions we need to be aware of.
    Monday April 12th
  • On Monday, we will provide parents and students with a listing of hotel room assignments and chaperone assignments.  Each chaperone will have ten or eleven students.  We are renting vehicles to transport the students around Dayton and the student's chaperone will also be their driver while we are in Dayton.
  • ****CALL TIME****
  • 8:10 am Tuesday, April 13, LAHS
  • Bus will leave LAHS at 8:30 am SHARP!
  • Students may arrive at school at 8:10 that day.  If students wish to arrive at school before 8:10, they must take their luggage to the band room and wait there until 8:10 am.  The bus to LAX will load in the front parking lot.

  • Luggage
  • Delta Airlines charges $20 for each bag checked, including the first bag.  Please discourage your student from checking a bag.  Students need to wear their bulkiest pair of shoes/boots and their heaviest jacket on the plane so there is less in the bag they need to fit into an overhead compartment.  We will be taking their performance shoes and costumes on the truck Saturday night, so they will not need to pack those.  The link below explains what is considered carry-on luggage.  If they insist on checking a suitcase, they must bring $20 cash to check the bag at LAX before we leave and $20 cash to check the bag at Cincinnati before we return.  Be sure they understand they need to keep $20 cash for that return flight or their suitcase will not get back to California!  Link to Delta Airlines luggage regulations: http://www.delta.com/traveling_checkin/baggage/checked/index.jsp.  Please be sure all luggage, whether carry-on or checked, has a luggage tag with identification.  Another alternative:  If you absolutely need more than you can carry-on and you are organized enough to pack a suitcase and bring it on the bus Saturday, 4/10, we will try to fit it on the semi-truck hauling our equipment to Dayton.  We arrive in Dayton Tuesday night; you will not see that bag again until mid-morning Wednesday at practice.  So, be sure you do not pack anything you will need before then.  There may not be room and you may end up taking the bag back home with you Saturday, but we will try to get it on the truck.
    What to take
  • Students will be practicing outside, so please check the weather forecast for Dayton and be sure students are packing clothes warm enough for the temperatures. Last year high temps ranged from 44 to 68 degrees and low temps from 35 to 49 degrees with some rain showers thrown in.
  • Items they need:  Uniforms, including socks, shoes and appropriate t-shirts; clothes for outdoor practice sessions three days, regular clothes for evenings and for travel Sunday, warm clothes!  There is an indoor pool at the hotel that they may have time to enjoy. Toiletries for six days, five nights (see Airport Security info below).  Spending money.  Optional – camera, iPod, Gameboy, etc.
    Airport Security
  • Students need to bring their drivers license if they have one or their student ID to get through security.
  • Liquids, Gels, and Lotions or similar items in containers of 3.4 ounces/100 ml or less must fit comfortably in ONE, QUART-SIZE, clear plastic, zip-top bag if in carry-on baggage. Sharp objects such as nail clippers, pocket knives, scissors, etc. are not allowed and will be taken away by airport security.  PLEASE help your student ensure they have the correct size and type of items in their luggage.  Link to security restrictions: http://www.delta.com/traveling_checkin/airport_information/security_checkpoints/
    Food & Drinks for Airplane
  • Snacks brought from home are OK to take through security, except for produce and liquid. Once we go through security we can buy food and drink and bring it on the plane.  Note that Delta will not serve any complimentary meals on the flights.
    Money your student will need
  • Students need to provide their own breakfast, lunch and snacks on Tuesday as we fly to Cincinnati.  (If your student is buying food/drink at LAX, there are no bargain prices!).  Students need to provide their own lunch and snacks Sunday as we fly to LAX.  They will probably want to have money for extra snacks, treats and drinks throughout the six days.  Also, there will be lots of souvenirs available, including WGI World Competition T-shirts and other WGI items.  Due to budget constraints, we will not be buying these t-shirts for the students this year.
  • Beginning with dinner Tuesday night and ending with breakfast Sunday morning, their meals will be provided by Boosters as part of the trip expenses you have paid.
